Overview
Bitstamp is a long-standing cryptocurrency exchange. This page explains how to log in safely, what to do when login fails, how to set up or reset 2FA, and best security practices for your account.
How to sign in (web)
- Open your browser and go to the official Bitstamp login page:
https://www.bitstamp.net. - Click Sign in (top-right). Enter the email address associated with your account and your password.
- If you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled, enter the time-based one-time password (TOTP) from your authenticator app.
- Complete any additional checks (for example, device verification) and you’ll be signed into your dashboard.
Tip: Always confirm the site URL and look for the secure padlock in the browser address bar before entering credentials.
Mobile app sign-in
Open the Bitstamp app (iOS / Android), tap Sign in, enter your email and password, then complete 2FA if required. If you use biometric auth on your phone, you can enable it after your first sign-in for faster access.
Troubleshooting common login issues
- Forgot password: Use the “Forgot password” link on the login page to request a reset email. Follow the link and create a new strong password.
- No 2FA code / lost device: If you lost access to your authenticator, follow Bitstamp’s account recovery flow — you may need to provide identity documents. See the Account Recovery section below.
- Login not working: Clear browser cache, try an incognito window, or try another browser/device. Ensure cookies and JavaScript are enabled.
- Suspicious lockout: If your account is locked due to multiple failed attempts, contact Bitstamp support and avoid reattempts that may extend the lockout period.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
2FA protects your account with a second verification factor. Bitstamp supports TOTP (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.). To enable:
- Sign in and go to Security > Two-factor authentication.
- Scan the QR code using your authenticator app and enter the generated code to confirm.
If you need to reset 2FA, follow Bitstamp’s recovery prompts or contact support — be prepared to verify identity with documents and account information.
Account recovery & contacting support
For lost passwords, lost 2FA devices, or suspected account compromise, use the official Bitstamp support center. Provide accurate details and any requested verification documents. Avoid sharing sensitive details via social media or unverified channels.
Security best practices
- Use a unique, strong password and a password manager.
- Enable 2FA (TOTP) and keep recovery codes in a secure place.
- Beware of phishing — never enter credentials on a link received by email unless you confirmed the sender and URL.
- Keep your OS and browser updated; enable device biometrics if available and trusted.
